I made our budget data by tracking everything we spend money on and constant update and review. I started in 2013 with just supermarket food and drink and gradually added everything else. Starting January 2025 I have everything included. We do not have expenses for Rent, Car Loan, Mortgage, and Doctor Services. We are myself 60 year old sole family care giver son and my 88 year old physically disabled mom.

I have the budget in 9 main categories: Banking, Home Expenses, Health Insurance, Auto, Cell Phones, Additional , Special Expenses, Food and Drinks, Non Food Goods.

Below are the line items in our budget:

Income Taxes, Banking Fees (if we buy money), Credit Cards Annual Fees (no interest because we pay in full each month)

Electric, Natural Gas, Property Taxes, Water and Sewer, Garbage Service, Verizon Landline, Optimum TV and Internet, Home Owners Insurance, Home Repair Services, Lawn and Tree and Snow Services, Home Cleaning Services, Major Appliances and Repairs

Medicare, AARP United Healthcare Supplemental Plan F

AAA, Gasoline, Car Insurance, Car Maintenance, Drivers License, Car Registration

My Cell Phone, Mom's Cell Phone

AARP, Clothing, Grounds For Sculpture Membership, AOL Gold Membership, Miscellaneous , Postal Services, Barber Services, Dentist Services, Computer Services, Newspapers and Magazines

Miscellaneous includes the following we rarely have expenses for:
Tolls, Passport, Bus Tickets, Tax Services, Train Tickets, Parking Fees, Hotel Rooms, Movie Tickets, Airline Tickets, Sports Tickets, Concert Tickets, Lawyer Services, Admission Fees, Limo and Taxi Services, Car Rental

Gift Items, Charity and Church, Special Occasion Dining

Store Food and Drinks, Takeout and Dining Out

Non Food Goods sorted into the following categories:
Kitchen, Cleaning , Home and Garden, Personal Care, Healthcare including prescriptions, Office, Car Care, Laundry, Paper Items, Poise Pads, Gift Cards

Our Budget for all above for the 2 of us is $46,000 max for a year. We try hard to come under that. To that end in January 2026 I got SNAP for myself $277 per month, and General Assistance Grant for personal care and household items and cash, $277 per month that must be eventually paid back. I also have medicaid for myself. I think we can make it under the current inflation conditions 5 more years, then I can get social security.
