For those of you with side hustles, how do you usually handle the extra income? Do you put it straight into savings, use it to pay off debt, or reinvest it back into growing your hustle?
I've been earning a bit on the side lately, and I'm torn between saving it for a rainy day and using it to expand what I'm doing. I'd love to hear how others manage their side hustle money - especially if you've found a balance between rewarding yourself and making that income work for you long-term.

I usually split my side hustle income into three parts. some goes straight to savings, some gets reinvested back into the hustle (like tools, ads, or skill upgrades), and the rest I leave for fun or small rewards. It helps me gorw the side income wthoutfeeling like I'm working nonstop just to save. Over time, even small consistent amounts add up nicely.

I like how you balance growth, savings, and a little reward for yourself. I do something similar, making sure a portion goes back into improving the side hustle while another chunk builds my emergency or investment fund. Seeing those small amounts grow over time is surprisingly motivating.
Do you usually set specific percentages for each part, or adjust them depending on your goals that month?

I've wrestled with the same thing! For me, I try to split it up so I feel both responsible and rewarded. Usually, I'll put about half toward savings or debt (depending on what's more pressing) and the rest either gets reinvested into tools or ads to grow my side hustle, or I treat myself a bit. I've learned that if I don't give myself some room to enjoy the extra income, I start to lose motivation. How big of a side hustle are you running - like, is it something you're thinking of scaling up seriously, or more of a steady extra income stream?

I usually split my sidheustle income depending on priorities at the time. a portion goes straight into savings, another chunk helps pay down any debt, and a smaller part I reinvest into growing the side hustle, like upgrading tools or running ads. I find that having clear percentages helps me feel in control and avoids the temptation to spend it all impulsively. It also makes the extra money feel purposeful, whether it's building security, reducing debt, or expanding opportunities.

I've been in the same spot with my side hustle! What works for me is splitting the extra income into a few buckets: a bit goes straight to savings for emergenices, some I use to pay down any debt, and the rest I reinvest into tools or mrketing to grow the hustle. I've been using a simple budgeting app to keep track, and it really helps me see where each dollar is going without feeling guilty about spending a little on myself too.

If youve got debt or no emergency fund, throwing a chunk of the side-hustle money there makes life way less stressful. Even 20-30% helps.

Usually I split it up. I do something like:
  • 30% savings
  • 30% debt / bills
  • 30% reinvest into the hustle
  • 10% fun money
That way youre building for the future and growing the side hustle without going broke.

If you want it simple: save first, then reinvest whats left.
