I’m trying to get my finances more organized and want to start using a budget spreadsheet to track everything. I’ve seen a few templates floating around, but I’m curious what others here are actually using. Do you have a favorite Google Sheets or Excel budget template that’s worked well for you? Ideally something beginner friendly but still detailed enough to track income, fixed/variable expenses, savings goals, and maybe even debt payoff. Bonus points if it’s free and doesn’t require a lot of manual entry. Appreciate any links, tips, or personal templates you’ve created. Would love to see what’s working for this community.

That's a solid setup., Vertex42 is super easy to use, and the Google Sheets budget template is great for quick access and customization. I'm the same way with charts - seeing progress visually really keeps me motivated. Do you prefer detailed tracking or just a simple overview of where your money's going each month?

I've tested a few budget templates, but the one that's worked best for me is a simple Google Sheets setup organized by pay period instead of by month. It includes sections for income, fixed bills, variable spending, savings goals, and debt payoff-all on one page. I added a few formulas so the totals update automatically, which makes tracking effortless. If you're new to budgeting, Google's free *Monthly Budget* template is a great starting point-you can tweak it as you go and build from there. Once it's set up, it's surprisingly satisfying to see everything neatly organized and your savings steadily grow.

I've been using a Google Sheets budget template I fonud a while back, and it's been surprisingly easy to stick with. It tracks income, bills, variable expenses, and even has a section for savings goals and debt payoff, so I can see everything in one place without feeling overwhelmed. I like that most of it updates automatically once you enter your numbers, which saves a ton of time. Honestly, starting simple and gradually adding categories as you get comfortable worked best for me-otherwise it can get too complicated too fast.

I've tried a few and honestly Google's simple monthly budget template is a great place to start. It's beginner-friendly and just tracks income, expenses, and what's left over each month, which makes it easy to see where your money is going.

If you want something a little more advanced later, a lot of people recommend the Aspire Budget Google Sheets template. It uses an envelope-style system and even tracks things like net worth and goals.

I've also seen people on Reddit share their own spreadsheets-one user said their sheet includes a purchase log, income log, graphs, and monthly breakdowns so you can customize it however you want.

Honestly though, the best one is just whatever you'll actually keep updating. Even a simple sheet with income, bills, and spending categories works great once you get in the habit of checking it weekly.

Ive tried a few and honestly the simpler ones worked best for me. The free Google Sheets templates based on the 50/30/20 rule are a great starting point, they automatically calculate whats left after expenses so you dont have to overthink it .
If you want something a bit more detailed, there are templates with dashboards and charts that track income, expenses, savings, and even debt in one place .
Personally, Id suggest starting with a simple one-tab sheet first, then upgrading later once you get the habit down. Way less overwhelming.

Yeah Ive had the same experience. The simple ones are way easier to stick with, and thats really what matters. Once it gets too detailed, it starts feeling like a chore.

The 50/30/20 setup is a solid starting point too, it gives structure without overcomplicating things. I like your idea of starting with one tab first, then adding more later if needed. Building the habit first makes a big difference.

I mostly use the built-in template in Google Sheets (Monthly Budget). It’s easy, tracks income + expenses, and no setup needed.
If you want more control, check out Aspire Budget. It’s free and good for tracking savings and debt too.
My tip: don’t go too complex at first. Pick something simple and update it every week—that’s what actually works 👍

This is exactly what I've been looking fo!r I really want a budget template that is simple enough to use every day but still detailed enough to give me a clear picture of where my money is going. Ideally, it would track monthly income, fixed and variable expenses, savings, debt payments, spending categories, and financial goals all in one place. Having automatic totals, monthly comparisons, and a simple overview of how much I'm saving versus spending would make budgeting so much easier. I'd also love to have a section for setting monthly spending limits and tracking progress throughout the month. A clean, organized, and easy-to-use template like this would be incredibly helpful for managing personal finances and staying consistent with saving money.
